Description: Page III of learning how to create a Kewl pumpkin coach for Halloween.
Images have been reduced for faster loading pages.
Edit, Resize, resize your background image to these dimensions below - 860 x 700 px. From now on you will have to add more space as you need to.
Center pumpkin coach and move up it to the top of the image.
STEP and GREENS
1. Path tool, heart shape or spline create a shape like each one of these below for the step up to the coach. I used green color #155524. They have to fit together the little oval being under the heart shape one so move it under when you are finished creating them. This is an actual size so you can save the graphic bring it to work top and select the shapes, do the Edit Trace thing to make the shapes if you like to save time.
2. Now that you have these two pieces, Convert from path to image and use the Dodge tool 60-100-20 to lighten the areas I have here. You may use the Burn tool with the same settings to darken the edges to make the step look 3D.
3. Line & Arrow tool, Spline, 1 px line, darker green than the leaf, create a slightly curved line for the center of the leaf like so. You should have something like this when you are finished with your step.
4. Path tool, Teardrop shape, 2D green create another leaf using the teardrop shape.
Edit it so it looks similar to this one below.
Convert, Dodge and Burn like you did before.
Create the line down the center and Group the two pieces.
Duplicate, Flip horizontally and then vertically, move over to the other side and place like so.
Move them under the step when you are finished.
5. Line & Arrow tool, Spline, same green 3 px line make a curlicue with a "straight line" at both ends like below.
Edit the bottom of the line by pulling the handle straight down to round the end. The top will be under the heart step you made.
6. Path, Outline tool, Oval, 3 px, green color create an oval that fits over your top curly loop like so. My loop is 24 x 17 but you need to make one and resize to fit your own top loop-de-loop.
Now Duplicate, Edit, Resize, Keep Aspect Ratio, 75% smaller, and move it down and under your top one. Do this step once more, and move that one down and under the middle one, and you should have something that looks like this below. Move it over and down under the heart step like so.
WHEELS
1. Open the wheel you made at first. Make sure the 3 sections are Grouped together. Copy and Paste as Object to your coach image. Move down to the bottom of your image. Close the original.
2. Move your wheel over and under the leaf step and leaves. Duplicate, and Rclick, Arrange, Send to Back.
Move this wheel to the right and up a little. You can judge how far by looking below at my wheel spacing. You'll see the back wheel curl going to the center of the wheel is at the very edge of the end of the curl in the center of the wheel in front. Set your wheel spacing as close to this as you can.
3. Select both wheels and Duplicate.
Move these to the front ahead of the coach.
Resize, making them 15 pixels smaller.
Move the wheel in back to the bottom of the pile of objects in your Layer Manager.
4. Draw a straight line 1 px any color as a guide. Make it long enough to go past both sets of wheels.
5. Line this line up under the back front wheel.
Move the front wheel in front of the coach down to meet this line.
I used two lines to show you how it should look, but you can do them with one line.
COACH STRUTS
1. Path tool, Spline, 2D same green color as before, make a long shape like so below 390 x 90 px. This strut goes under or behind the coach to each wheel. This is the largest one and from it you duplicate and make the rest smaller so they fit the length to each wheel.
This is the actual size so you can save it and do the Edit, Trace commands to make your own green one. Convert, Burn the outside edges and Dodge a bit in the middle very lightly. Duplicate it, Rclick, Arrange, Send to back for the other long one in front.
2. For the back two struts, Duplicate twice do the resize thing to make them shorter and fit under and in back of the two front struts like below. Send one to the back again. Line them up to the wheels like shown below.
3. Select the two green leaves on the outer sides of your heart step and duplicate them. Group, Flip horizontally, and send to back. Raise or lower or rotate them so you can fill in and see they are there.
LAMP
1. Line tool, 3D green, size 5 line create a line that curls up like this at the top. Edit it so it looks like the one below. This is your lamp holder.
2. Line or Path tool create a small rectangle to hold the light with - 10 x 22 px. Move under lamp holder in your layer manager.
Path tool, 2D, Spline or Triangle shape, orange-ish color, create a dome for your lamp. Here are a couple samples for you.
Convert, Burn edges, Dodge center where light shines through, you know? Place above rectangle piece above.
3. Path, Create a 2D round oval, Yellow #FFF500, 46 x 56 px and place over rectangle peg you created above. Move down in your Layer manager so it's under the dome cover.
4. Duplicate this yellow circle. Convert to image. Double click or Rcick to get the Properties box, and change the Merge to Lighten, the Transparency box to 20, and the bottom box, the Soft Edge, to 15. Move your glow down so it is radiating on the rectangle and the head of the curly lamp holder. Hehehe...how's that for a neat little light and glow! Cute. All it needs is a little bitty bug. LOL
5. Select all your lamp parts and Group. Place on the front half of the coach in between the pumpkin lines evenly.
FOOT REST SEAT COMBO
1. Line tool, Spline, 3D Green, Create this two piece shape below. Pull your handles out so the ends are rounded or if it won't work for you make a little ball for the ends and tuck it under each end. In PI 11 when you pull the handles straight out the ends round nicely.
2. Group the two pieces, Duplicate, Send this one to the back. Move it to the right a few pixels and down a few.
Create a cushion for a seat with the Path tool.
Create a flat plate (dk. green oval) to hold the seat cushion.
Create a little strip for between the two foot ends. Move all these pieces under the top footrest in your layer manager. You should now have this.
CROWN
1. Path tool, 2D, Shape rectangle, Color: the orange in your pumpkin, create a rectangle for the top about 100 x 25 px.
Resize, Perspective, Close the top up a bit.
Edit, click on each line and convert it to a curve. Bring the bottom curve upward like so below.
Convert image, Burn the edges, Dodge the center. Put in place on top of your coach.
2. Path tool, 2D orange, fat paint brush shape #S49
draw a small one 41 x 54 px. Edit it so the bottom is up a bit, and the top comes more to a point like you see below.
Use the Line tool, Spline, 2D, lite brown, 1 px to run up the center.
3. By now you see this graphic above and you know you need to Convert the leaf,
Burn the edges,
Dodge the center in front and back of the line.
You also need to make another one,
Rotate it left or right,
Flip it horizontally,
and move it over to the other side like you see above.
Find the cross shape, make one, do what you did above on it and move it to the center of the crown behind the center leaf.
You know the drill now - to make 2D look like 3D, Right? I hardly need to write anything else here. I can just show it to you and you can make it. Wow! Look how far you've come! :)
FINISHING TOUCHES
1. UnGroup your pumpkin shell and leave them selected. Turn on the Burn tool and set it up like this 25-100-50 Color lite brown.
Now in version 11, the color you have for your foreground color is the color it will POE with the Burn and Dodge brushes. Usually, in other versions, it would just burn the edges or dodge them. It's almost like v.11 is working on the paint brush without it being selected. If your version doesn't work that way then use the paint brush and choose your color.
We are going to make our coach sections 3D. The pieces are all selected and you have picked your brown color or dark orange or green color (haha - prolly not green, but try it anyway, you never know. You can always undo and try another color.) for your foreground color.
so click on POE and let it do it's thing. Mine turned out like this.

Now I hear you saying where the heck is the Paint on Edges in this version. Everything is all changed around and it's gone.
Easy fix. Rclick on the top menu bar, choose Customize.
Click on the Commands tab and go down to Effects and select it.
On the right side is Creative. Grab it with your pointer and drag it up to your menu bar above. :) Now you have it. Too easy! POE that coach and play a bit with this new found way of making 2D into 3D. :)

I have also added a light in the back of my coach if you would like to do that also.
Line tool, make a curlicue line like you have before or look at the sample below or make your own hanger. :)
Duplicate your lamp on the front of the coach and Paste as objects.
Move them over under your hanger. Make the solid oval smaller. Change the Properties on the glow to Always, and make it larger.
Use the Path Outline to make a small circle ring or oval to hang your lantern from.
Convert the ring or oval and erase where it would go in back of the hook like so below. Send to back behind the Coach.
